Most things people do are guided by a rhythm. How we structure our days, spend our time, when we breathe, when we sleep, how we feel, our habits and routines, the list goes on.
Businesses have rhythms too. That is regular activities that once perfected, create a more consistent output. For example, a successful salesperson or team will have a set process that they'll go through to hit the sales numbers. This will need to align with the marketing teams activities, to ensure lead generation is optimised, and with the product teams workflow to ensure the right things are prioritised. Each individual and team has their own 'beat' that builds into the rhythm of the company.
This alignment drives outcomes for a business. It's why workflow, productivity and ongoing communication practices are so important, they help to align the rhythm.
When you're starting a business it's your job to set the rhythm for your company.
As the leader, you're the one beating the initial drum. You control the pace at the beginning. Then as your team grows, each new person finds their own beat on their own instrument that contributes to the overall output. Your end game is a beautifully sounding orchestra.
If you feel like you haven't found your rhythm yet maybe it's because as a leader, your not setting a strong enough beat. It might be that you don't have the right people playing the right instruments.
Regular processes and practices help, for example, weekly meetings and daily stand-ups.
Finding the rhythm does take practice, the more you do it the better you become at finding and controlling it. So keep going until you find it.
